Palatine salutes local League of Women Voters

League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area received a public salute for a milestone anniversary this week.

Palatine village council member Greg Solberg read into the record at Monday night's meeting a proclamation recognizing the League's 60th anniversary. Such duties usually are handled by Mayor Jim Schwantz, but he could not attend the session due to his job as an analyst on Chicago Bears pregame and halftime programming on WBBM radio.

"The League of Women Voters have continuously provided nonpartisan voter information and encouraged informed citizenship for the residents of Palatine," the proclamation states in part.

Established on Sept. 17, 1958, the organization also was recognized for studying and supporting community needs, including senior services and child care. The League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area has backed fiscal responsibility in all levels of local government.
