Party in Palatine Sept. 29 to celebrate National Public Lands Day

To celebrate National Public Lands Day, the Forest Preserves of Cook County will be hosting a party Saturday, Sept. 29, at Deer Grove East in Palatine, where visitors of all ages can enjoy nature exploration, dancing, stewardship and more.

The free event begins at 8 a.m. with a bird walk led by the Chicago Audubon Society, followed by restoration work with Deer Grove Natural Area Volunteers at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m.

Beginning at 1 p.m., there will also be natural material building, a mountain bike clinic hosted by REI, bird feeder building with Chicago Zoological Society, as well as stargazing with Adler Planetarium, and bat sonar and night hikes.

The preserve is at 1599 Pepper Tree Drive in Palatine.
