2 suspects arrested in Aurora shooting

Aurora police have arrested two men accused of shooting at a couple and damaging their car in a daytime attack.

Alexavier Fuentes, 20, and Jose J. Gonzalez, 22, both of Aurora, were arrested last week and are being held at the Kane County jail with bail amounts of $2 million and $1.02 million, respectively, Kane County court records show.

Fuentes, of the 300 block of Flagg Street, and Gonzalez, of the 900 block of Lebanon Street, are charged with armed violence and aggravated discharge of a firearm, court records show. The charges accuse them of shooting at a 1998 Toyota Camry and damaging the door.

According to police, a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were sitting in their parked vehicle about 12:50 p.m. Aug. 30 on the 900 block of Fulton Street on the city's near east side when a sedan pulled up behind.

A person got out of the vehicle, described as a newer black sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, pulled a gun and fired a single shot, police said. No one was hit; only the car was damaged, police said.

After the Kane County state's attorney's office signed off on charges against Fuentes, police were told Fuentes would visit a hotel on the 2400 block of West Sullivan Road. Officers set up surveillance that night, and he took off running when spotted near the hotel, authorities said. Fuentes was arrested while carrying a 9 mm handgun, police said.

Fuentes also faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a street gang member and resisting arrest, court records show.

Court records show Gonzalez was arrested after a car chase Friday. Gonzalez is charged with felony aggravated fleeing and eluding, along with a host of traffic violations in his 2011 Nissan Maxima, such as improper lane use and disobeying stop signs and stop lights, records show.

Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli could not immediately provide information on Gonzalez's arrests.

Both men are due in court Sept. 13. If convicted, each faces six to 30 in prison on the armed violence and shooting charges, and possible sentence add-ons since a firearm was discharged.

Fuentes must post $200,000 to be released while the charges are pending; Gonzalez needs to post $102,000 to be released.
