Fred Fest raises money for prairie restoration along the Fox River

The Fox River Forest Preserve in Port Barrington hosted the sixth annual Fred Fest Saturday. It featured a diverse lineup of local bands, food, drinks and family-friendly activities.

Fred Fest benefits the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves. Funds raised go to the restoration of Grassy Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Barrington, returning nearly 100 acres along the Fox River to its pre-settlement condition by removing invasive species and planting native species.

"When the foundation started, just over 10 years ago, the acquisition of Grassy Lake was a really good opportunely to make a name for the foundation and let people know they can support the forest preserves at every level," said Rebekah Snyder, executive director of the preservation foundation.
