Antioch man charged in dispute about July 4 fireworks

An Antioch man accused of firing a gun into the air on the Fourth of July to intimidate his disgruntled neighbors has been charged, police said Wednesday.

Bradley E. Gundlach, 24, of the 100 block of Depot Street, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

According to police, a man and his friend confronted Gundlach about carelessly setting off fireworks in the area of Depot Street and Anita Avenue. After an argument, Gundlach retrieved a firearm from his house and shot it into the air several times about 10:30 p.m., police said.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Gundlach in which bail was set at $250,000. Gundlach turned himself in to the Lake County jail Friday and later was released on bond.

His next scheduled court appearance is Aug. 30.

"This case was a very complex and challenging case to put together in order to bring charges against the responsible individual," Deputy Chief Geoff Guttschow said in a Facebook post. "It was because of the hard work, dedication and attention to details by the responding officers the night of the incident, that detectives were able to bring this case to the successful resolution of an arrest."
