New lobby dedicated at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre

There was applause all around earlier this month at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, but not for a performance. Instead, guests were treated to an unveiling of the theater's newly renovated lobby space, the Whisler Family Lobby, at a dedication ceremony on Aug. 1.

Set off by leaded glass doors, engraved with the Whisler family name, and featuring a nine-screen video wall that garnered lots of attention, the new space drew rave reviews from guests in attendance.

The private ribbon cutting ceremony paid tribute to Jack Whisler, his wife, Helen Jensen, and their family, who were in attendance. Whisler's generous gift to Metropolis made the lobby renovation possible - including new flooring, updated lighting, fresh paint, a large video wall, graphic elements, and the addition of doors defining the Metropolis lobby space.

In recognition of his important contribution to Metropolis, the lobby has been named the "Whisler Family Lobby," and the family name appears on the glass doors at the lobby's entrance.

"This is a transformational gift to our Metropolis," said Joe Keefe, executive director. "In addition to creating a warm and welcoming space for our patrons, we are now able to employ our lobby for many new purposes.

"Gifts like this one help us expand our cultural arts options while nurturing the wonderful legacy of Jack and his family. Our patrons, students and staff are thrilled with this magnificent evolution."

Stephen Daday, president of the board of Metropolis, thanked the Whisler family for their gift, which he described as an extension of their dedication to the Arlington Heights community.

"The new lobby is a tribute to the contributions of the Whisler family and their many years of service to the community," Daday said.

Several local businesses also contributed to the renovation through in-kind donations of goods and services. These important contributions came from Robert Flubacker Architects, Ltd., OHi Our Home Improvement, Buchan Consulting, Suburban Accents Inc., and TEM II Construction.
