Batavia police looking for more information about body found near school

Batavia police said they found the body of a man in a wooded area near H.C. Storm Elementary School Saturday night.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no information is being released about the dead man or how he died.

Police were called to the area at about 6:20 p.m., having received a report of someone armed and despondent in the wooded area southwest of the school, located at 305 N. Van Nortwick Ave.

Officers secured the scene and requested the assistance of the Kane County SWAT team.

Batavia police said they are attempting to identify and speak with two people located near the scene after the first officers arrived.

Officers described them as a man and a woman, both white. One of the subjects was wearing a yellow shirt and walking a medium-size dog. The officers made contact with them while they were walking from the west side of the school to the east side, near the playground.

The Batavia Police Department said it is in need of additional information from them regarding their observations around the time of the incident and is asking they contact the department directly.
