Probation for Palatine man who sexually abused teen he met through social media

A Palatine man was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender after he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a teenage girl he met last year on a social media site.

Juan Dimas-Cordero, 22, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse Tuesday, court records show. He may not have contact with the victim and must refrain from using Facebook or any other social media while on probation, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Kristin Piper.

According to prosecutors, Dimas-Cordero met the then-14-year-old girl on Facebook in July 2017. They told each other their ages and agreed to meet to engage in a sexual activity, prosecutors said during Dimas-Cordero's bond hearing last year.

Sometime between Aug. 1 and Sept. 8, 2017, Dimas-Cordero drove the girl to a parking lot behind a Buffalo Grove clothing store where they engaged in sexual activity, prosecutors said. On Sept. 8, 2017, after leaving home without telling anyone, the girl met Dimas-Cordero, who drove her to a parking lot behind a fast-food restaurant, prosecutors said.

After finding the girl missing, her mother called police. The girl subsequently told authorities what had happened.
