Man, 19, shot in leg at Palatine apartment building
Palatine police are investigating the shooting of a 19-year-old man Tuesday afternoon at an apartment building on the northeast side of the village.
Officers were called to the building in the 1700 block of North Rose Avenue just before 1 p.m. in response to a report of gunshots, police said.
While officers responded, the caller informed a 911 dispatcher that the victim had been shot in the leg by an unknown person and was being taken by another person to the hospital. The dispatcher persuaded the caller to pull over to a safe location, where Palatine paramedics were able to treat and transport the man to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, according to police.
The man's condition was not immediately known late Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Yellow crime scene tape was up in a section of the complex's parking lot, extending from the front to the rear of an apartment building. About 10 Palatine police officers were observed on the scene at one point, with some surveying the lot and a courtyard between apartment buildings.
Cmdr. Craig Lesselyoung said detectives were searching for the accused shooter. The apartments are near the Rand Road corridor north of Dundee Road.
"They're working it hard," Lesselyoung said.
