Waukegan man identified in Newport Township motorcycle crash
A 56-year-old Waukegan man has been identified as the person killed in a motorcycle crash in Newport Township Wednesday, authorities said.
Apolonio Patlan was driving a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Kilbourne Road at about 2:15 p.m. when a northbound 2008 Jeep Compass turned left in front of him onto Route 173, Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Covelli said.
Patlan was thrown from the motorcycle in the crash, Covelli said. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a Wisconsin hospital.
The driver of the Jeep, a 69-year-old Gurnee woman, was uninjured, Covelli said.
Covelli said witnesses reported the traffic light was green for vehicles on Kilbourne at the intersection. No charges have been issued.
The Lake County coroner's office is awaiting toxicology reports, and a drone from the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County was called in to assist with the investigation.
