Motorcyclist dies after crashing into tree early Friday morning

A motorcyclist died Friday after crashing into a tree on Grass Lake Road in Antioch Township, authorities say.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded near Grass Lake Road and Kathryn Drive about 5:15 a.m. to reports of a motorcycle crashed on the side of the road. The deputies found a 1999 Honda motorcycle on the south side of the road and the driver in a line of trees nearby, authorities said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was traveling east on Grass Lake Road when he left the road for an undetermined reason.

The driver, a Lake Villa Township man, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputies and paramedics, authorities said.

The Lake County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
