Lake Barrington buys 8 acres for open space

Lake Barrington trustees have approved the $445,000 purchase of 8 acres off Kelsey Road to preserve and enhance the village's open space holdings, officials said.

The sales price for the land includes demolition of existing buildings on it. The 8 acres, in part, are expected to improve the connectivity between village open spaces, enhance recreation activities for residents and protect trees, woodlands and waterways.

Village President Kevin Richardson said the land will be cared for properly and allow officials to seek grants and work with other agencies such as the Lake Barrington Countryside Park District and the Lake County Forest Preserve District on related site construction. The $445,000 for the land buy will come from the open space and impact fee funds.
