Batavia fireworks show's parking, traffic details

Locals know that the shopping center lots along Randall Road are a great place to catch the Batavia Fourth of July fireworks show.

Now, Pal Joey's Restaurant, which recently moved to its new home at 2030 Main St., has a deal. Even though the restaurant is closed, you can park there for a $5 donation to the fireworks fund. And you will receive a $5 coupon for the restaurant.

That's one of the most recent tidbits for planning your visit.

Batavia police have some advice for people coming to the fireworks show Wednesday night.

First, if you usually come down Morton Street from Batavia Avenue (Route 31), plan a different route. Morton Street is closed from Route 31 to Jefferson Street for a sewer installation project.

Second, be prepared for Main Street to close between Feece Drive and Pitz Lane/Ellen Lane once the south parking lot at Batavia High School is full, likely around 8 p.m., according to Deputy Chief Shawn Mazza. It will remain closed until about a half-hour after the fireworks show.

People who have handicapped-parking placards will still be able to get in at Ellen/Pitz to park in the lot at Batavia Evangelical Covenant Church, 1314 Main St., until that lot is full. They won't be able to leave until Main is reopened.

The fireworks show is at Engstrom Family Park, at Main and Millview Drive.

There will be entertainment and food available starting at 5 p.m. The Batavia Community Band will perform at 8:15 p.m. The fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m.

Besides the park, people can view the fireworks from the practice fields on the high school grounds.

Viewers are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages, dogs and sparklers or other fireworks.

The fireworks committee will collect donations at parking lots in the area. The Wilson Street lot at the high school will be available.

If the show is canceled due to bad weather, it will take place Thursday night, according to Mayor Jeff Schielke.
