Small town feel for Barrington 4th

Children in painted faces ran between activities while adults played bingo during the Barrington 4th of July Fest Brat Tent festivities Monday at the North Metro commuter lot.

"Now that the heat has broken, this is an extraordinary great day with a full house for bingo and all the children's activities going on," said Brian Cecola, event coordinator for the Barrington Lions Club. "All the proceeds that are raised go back to charities. We do military, local schools, scholarships, eye glasses and hearing aids for kids. Also, the Barrington Lions pays for Barrington's fireworks."

Children's activities for the Barrington Lions Club-sponsored event included bungee jumping, wall climbing on Avalanche Mountain, a bouncy gym, face painting by Margie and balloon animals by Frank Birdsall.

More than 100 adults of all ages sat in the shade to play bingo and win prizes, such as plants, restaurant coupons and Chicago Cubs wear.

"We love it. We come every year. The kids have fun and the adults have fun. It's the reason we moved to Barrington, for the small-town feel," Colleen Lenderman of Barrington said as she held an arm load of plants from winning at bingo. "We love bingo, but only just this time of year. We won plants, free pizza and golf lessons. It was a great day."

Entertainment for the afternoon and evening included Sparky the Fire Dog and the bands Dixie Crush and Gone Country.
