Man sentenced to 15 years for Villa Park armed robbery

Despite escaping the armed robbery of a Villa Park 7-Eleven with $200 cash and a roll of scratch-off lottery tickets, May 20, 2017, was not Cameron Love's lucky day.

Prosecutors said Tuesday it was a fingerprint lifted from a ticket that fell off the roll during his escape that eventually led to the 20-year-old Blue Island man being charged nearly two months later.

Love pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated robbery and was sentenced by DuPage County Judge John Kinsella to 15 years in prison. Love has been held on $1 million bail since his arrest in July 2017.

Assistant State's Attorney Nick Catizone said Love entered the store on Villa Avenue at 5:09 a.m. with another man, took the lottery tickets and cash, and then forced the clerk to get on his knees while both men kicked him in the face.

Catizone said Love was arrested two days after the robbery and charged in a similar case in Will County. Love was sentenced to six years in prison in that case, to be served concurrent with his DuPage sentence.

Kinsella also agreed to make a recommendation that Love get drug treatment for his addictions while in custody.

"I'd encourage you to abstain from such poison in the future," Kinsella said. "Looking at your background, it's apparent you've made quite a mess out of things."

The second suspect was never charged.
