Three displaced by Palatine apartment fire

Three people were forced from their home after a fire at an apartment building in Palatine that took 30 firefighters to extinguish, authorities said.

Officials said firefighters responded about noon Thursday to a report of smoke coming from the second story of an eight-unit apartment building at 322 N. Carter St. First responders called for backup before entering the apartment, where they found a fire in the kitchen of a second-floor unit, according to a news release from the Palatine Fire Department.

Firefighters determined the fire had spread to the attic and pulled down parts of the ceiling to keep the blaze from spreading further, according to the release.

Authorities said no one was hurt in the fire, which is still under investigation.
