Two Elgin men arrested on weapons charges

Two men were arrested and charged in Elgin after loaded firearms were found in their vehicle, authorities said.

Officers from the gang crimes unit and the unit for special assignment conducted a traffic stop about 5:55 p.m. Saturday on the 1600 block of Maple Drive, police said in a Facebook post Monday.

Officers stopped the vehicle because the driver was using his cellphone and they found two loaded firearms and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, police spokeswoman Kirstie Hilton said.

The driver, Michael A. Crigler, 31, of the 200 block of Villa Street in Elgin, was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, two counts of possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, driving with a suspended license and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crigler had a previous Kane County felony conviction for a weapon-related offense, police said.

The passenger, Greggory A. Boudreau, 53, of the 200 block of Villa St. in Elgin, was charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

"This was a proactive stop that resulted in taking guns and people who shouldn't be possessing them off the streets of Elgin," interim Chief Bill Wolf said.

Court records show the firearms recovered were a .38-caliber Derringer Excam Hialeah Florida SP handgun and a .40-caliber Kahr CM40 handgun.
