Bartlett house fire leaves home uninhabitable

A lightning strike may be to blame for a fire in Bartlett over the weekend that left a home uninhabitable, officials said Monday.

No one was injured in the fire, which broke out about 5 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Independence Drive.

Bartlett Fire Protection District firefighters arrived to find flames billowing from the rear of the home. The fire appeared to have started on the exterior of the house, and flames and smoke spread throughout the residence, officials said.

Firefighters broke out walls and ceilings to expose the fire and extinguish it. The fire was under control about 5:15 a.m., officials said.

Neighbors reported a lightning strike nearby just before the fire started. However, investigators were unable to confirm it caused the blaze. The fire remains under investigation.

The fire caused approximately $100,000 in damage.

Hanover Park, Streamwood and West Chicago fire departments assisted.
