MAC announces new season at College of DuPage

Editor's note: Christopher Cross was removed from the season's lineup.

An eclectic mix of music, dance, theater, comedy, film and family entertainment will take center stage during the McAninch Arts Center's 2018-19 season at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

The new season, announced Wednesday, will begin in September and continue through June 2019. This will be the MAC's fifth season since its reopening in 2014 at 425 Fawell Blvd. The theater has been attracting more than 100,000 people a year to more than 200 performances.

Highlights of the new season include:

• Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood of “Whose Line is it Anyway” in “The Scared Scriptless Tour.”

• Comedian Bassem Youssef, known as “the Jon Stewart of the Arab World.”

• Jazz artists Dee Dee Bridgewater, Take 6 and “Take Me To the River: New Orleans LIVE.”

• Dance events including Pilobolus' “Shadowland: The New Adventure” and Ballet Hispanico.

• World music and dance performances including Compania Flamenca Eduardo Guerrero, Bollywood Boulevard and Celtic Nights.

• PBS favorites the Annie Moses Band, The Texas Tenors and The High Kings.

As part of the new season, the MAC is introducing a series of post-show “Common Ground Conversations.”

“We felt bringing people together to connect to new ideas and cultures through the arts is as important as getting together to just have a laugh,” Director Diana Martinez said in a news release. “With this in mind, we created a free new series called ‘Common Ground Conversations,' which will take place for select thought-provoking presentations. These moderated conversations will relate to the artists' work with the goal to encourage and foster new perspectives and cultural understanding.”
