Missing teen reunited with family after chase through Des Plaines, Rosemont

A police chase through Des Plaines and Rosemont early Wednesday morning reached speeds of at least 90 mph before ending in a three-vehicle crash and a missing teen's reunion with her family.

The chase began when Des Plaines police attempted to stop a Chevy Impala with five occupants on the 1700 block of East Oakton Street shortly after midnight, Cmdr. Christopher Mierzwa said. The driver sped away south on River Road, reaching speeds of 90 mph, he said.

Des Plaines police abandoned the chase but Rosemont officers spotted the car a short time later and continued the pursuit as the driver went west on Balmoral Avenue, police said. The driver eventually crashed into two vehicles on the 9900 block of Balmoral Avenue, where Chicago police responded, Mierzwa said.

The occupants of the Impala were taken to the hospital, and the 19-year-old man driving suffered a broken leg and pelvis, Mierzwa said. He is being treated at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

A total of six people were injured in the crash, Chicago police said. Three were taken to Lutheran General and three went to Presence Resurrection Medical Center. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening, police said.

Chicago police did not release details Wednesday morning of how the crash occurred.

One of the car's passengers was a girl reported missing out of Addison, Mierzwa said. She was reunited with her parents at the hospital, he said. Charges related to the police chase are pending against the 19-year-old driver, Mierzwa said.
