Elgin police memorial attended by about 75

Roughly 75 people attended the annual Elgin police memorial ceremony Wednesday.

Chief Jeff Swoboda talked about the toll that lost lives take on law enforcement.

"Sometimes we start talking about the numbers and we can lose sight of the fact that each one of those deaths causes so many dreams to come to a crashing end," he said.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 129 law enforcement officers were killed in 2017, and 54 others - including a Chicago police officer - since the beginning of 2018.
