Des Plaines man charged with setting apartment fire

Mount Prospect police said a 23-year-old Des Plaines man set fire to an apartment on the north side of town on Friday morning.

Luis Ixtlapale-Mitro is charged with one felony count of aggravated arson, according to a statement from Mount Prospect police Tuesday.

Police and fire department personnel responded about 10:10 a.m. Friday to the fire at an apartment building on the 1100 block of Boxwood Drive, authorities said. The fire department extinguished the blaze without incident.

Upon investigating the origin of the fire it was determined that it started under suspicious circumstances, police said.

Investigators spoke to Ixtlapale-Mitro, who was identified as the last person to leave the apartment before the fire was reported. Ixtlapale-Mitro later admitted to starting the fire, according to authorities.

A Cook County judge on Saturday ordered Ixtlapale-Mitro be held in the county jail without bail.
