Daughter with shovel thwarts armed robbery attempt in Lisle

An adult daughter armed with a garden shovel is being credited with thwarting an armed robbery attempt Sunday evening in Lisle.

Police said a resident was working in his yard about 6:45 p.m. on the 2300 block of Ridgewood Road when a man with a handgun demanded his wallet.

Hearing a commotion, the victim's daughter confronted the suspect with a shovel.

"She had a landscaping shovel and swung it at him to force him to leave their yard," Lisle Deputy Chief Ron Wilke said. "I don't believe she actually made contact with him."

He said the suspect got into a white Toyota Prius and left the area heading north on Ridgewood Road.

The subject is described as a heavyset black man wearing ripped, baggy jeans and a colorful hoodie sweatshirt. He was seen driving around the neighborhood before the robbery attempt.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Lisle police at (630) 271-4200.
