Chicago man pleads guilty to 2017 shooting at a vehicle in Antioch Township

A Chicago man pleaded guilty Monday to charges he opened fire on two people driving in a nearby vehicle in 2017 in Antioch Township.

Derrius L. Crenshaw, 24, of the 4700 block of South King Drive, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and for his role in the September shooting.

Judge Victoria Rossetti also sentenced Crenshaw to one year of parole following his release from prison. He received 222 days credit for the time he has already spent in Lake County jail, and will receive day-for-day credit while serving time in prison.

Felony charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon were dropped in exchange for the plea.

Authorities said Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots fired about 10:30 a.m. near North Addison Lane and Route 173 Sept. 12.

An investigation revealed an altercation took place between the two adult victims and Crenshaw at a business in the area of Routes 59 and 173 in Antioch, according to the sheriff's office.

After the verbal altercation, the victims left the area and drove out of town near the Addison Lane address. Crenshaw followed in a second vehicle and opened fire on the car with a gun, sheriff's police said.

Nobody was hit by gunfire and no injuries were reported in the attack, authorities said.

Sheriff's detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Crenshaw 10 days later and he was taken into custody by Chicago Police Sept. 24, authorities said. He has remained in county jail on $250,000 bail while awaiting trial.
