Double cast will perform 'James and the Giant Peach, Jr.' in Libertyville

Fresh off Thursday rehearsals, student actors at Highland Middle School are ready to perform their production of "James and the Giant Peach, Jr." in Libertyville.

The musical features a twist - a double cast is used to weave the tale of James, a young orphaned British boy who is forced to live with his cruel aunts. After discovering a giant peach, James finds himself inside the enormous fruit as he sets sail for New York City accompanied by a crew of friendly insects.

"This is the first time we've done, for all of our leads, a complete double casting. It's been a challenge for them but I think a great life lesson for them to learn how to share notes. They're a very hard working cast," director Shelby Burton said.

The show is put on in the style of Steam Punk and features 56 cast and more than 50 crew members.

The performances are sold out but show times are Friday, May 4, at 7:30 and Saturday, May, 5, 7:30 p.m. at Highland Middle School in Libertyville.
