Man sentenced for sexually abusing teen girl in Downers Grove

A Summit man has been sentenced to 5½ years in prison for sexually abusing a teenager in Downers Grove.

Anthony Nemeth, 28, of 7512 W. 58th Place, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse Tuesday and was sentenced by Judge Robert Miller.

Prosecutors said Nemeth sexually abused the 16-year-old girl in October 2017 at a park in Downers Grove. The girl's parents were alerted to the abuse and immediately contacted police, who in turn contacted the DuPage County Children's Center.

An arrest warrant was issued for Nemeth on March 1 and his bail was set at $250,000 the next day.

"This afternoon, (Nemeth) learned that for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl just to satisfy his sick sexual desires he will spend the next 5½ years behind bars where he will be unable to prey upon innocent girls," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "I would like to thank the parents of the victim for bringing this matter to our attention as soon as they became aware of the situation."

Nemeth will be required to serve half his sentence before being eligible for parole. He also will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
