Buffalo Grove creating new vision for Prairie View neighborhood
Buffalo Grove will host a public open house next week to kick off the creation of a new vision for the area surrounding the Prairie View Metra station.
The village has hired planning and design firm Ratio to produce a community-driven plan, which will center around the train station at 2701 Main St., just north of Half Day Road. The plan will take into consideration the opportunities and challenges of the surrounding area on the village's north side, as well as Metra's North Central Service which serves the station, officials say.
The open house is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at The Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Road.
"This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and develop a collaborative vision for this area," Village President Beverly Sussman said Monday in an announcement of the open house.
Ratio will lead the open house, which will feature interactive stations intended to generate ideas and gain feedback from the public.
"We are excited to begin this important project and look forward to hearing from residents, property owners, business representatives, local officials and other stakeholders on their ideas for the future of the Prairie View Metra Station Area," Project Lead Lesley Roth of Ratio said in the announcement.
According to the village, the Prairie View Metra station area is a distinct neighborhood in northern Buffalo Grove, encompassing residential, commercial and open space properties in incorporated and unincorporated areas. Recent developments there include the Easton Station and Prairie Landing townhouses.
The Prairie View plan, expected to be complete later this year, will guide future development in the area surrounding the train station.
