Palatine's Lake Louise Elementary receives big donation

Lake Louise Elementary School in Palatine recently received donated clothing, art supplies and other items valued at about $20,000 from the nonprofit organization Enchanted Backpack.

In addition to the clothes and art supplies, two trucks brought personal hygiene items, classroom area rugs, recess equipment, clothing and books to the school April 12. The value of the items donated exceeds $20,000.

To be considered for the donation, a school must be in the Chicago area and have at least 50 percent of the student population qualifying for the federal free and reduced lunch program. Lake Louise Principal Jennifer Seoane submitted an application to receive the donation and went through an interview process with Enchanted Backpack before being selected as a "Mobile Van" donation recipient.
