Elburn bank robbery suspect arrested

An Elburn bank was robbed Tuesday morning, but police quickly caught the suspect.

Elburn police reported that an Old Second National branch, 749 N. Main St., was robbed at 10:19 a.m. by a man who implied he had a gun.

Employees gave him a bank bag of cash, and the man left in a vehicle.

Officers pursued the vehicle, and the suspect surrendered at Keslinger Road and I-88. Keslinger crosses I-88, but the bridge is closed for construction.

Elburn police identified the man as Robert J. Johnson Jr., 33, of Machesney Park.

Police said they recovered a gun they believe Johnson threw out of the car.

The investigation has been turned over to the FBI.
