One Highland Park fire victim identified

One of two victims of a fatal house fire early Wednesday in Highland Park has been identified as 77-year-old Elaine Gassick.

In an update Friday, Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said the male victim has not been identified at this time.

The investigation into the exact cause of death and cause of the fire, is ongoing, Cooper said. Toxicology results are pending for both victims, he said.

Two people were found dead inside the house on the 2000 block of Kipling Lane. The coroner's office was notified about 6:06 a.m. Wednesday and removed the victims about 8:20 a.m., Cooper said.

Firefighters could not enter the two-story house because of heavy smoke and flames. The bodies were discovered after firefighters from Highland Park and 10 other departments extinguished the fire.
