Bensenville Dist. 2 board to approve teacher contract Wednesday

Bensenville Elementary District 2 teachers have approved a new five-year contract and the proposal now heads to the school board.

Board members have called a special meeting for 5 p.m. Wednesday at W.A. Johnson School to vote on the pact.

The contract will run through the 2021-22 school year, and immediately increase teachers' salaries. Raises for the first three years are 5 percent, 5.5 percent, and 5.25 percent. Raises in the contract's final two years will range between 3 percent and 5 percent, depending upon inflation rates.

Teachers choosing select insurance plans will pay higher shares of their premiums. The new shares will be closer to what teachers pay in neighboring DuPage school districts.

Superintendent James Stelter said the contract will fit within the district's budget without new taxes, thanks to additional revenue, the changes in health insurance, and staffing changes made last year.
