Cowen resigning as CEO of Kenneth Young Center in Elk Grove Village

Susan Cowen, the CEO of social services agency The Kenneth Young Center, will resign in May to take a job in California.

Cowen has led the Elk Grove Village-based nonprofit since 2015. She has been hired to lead the California operations and strategic growth for the Gateway Foundation. The move will allow Cowen to live closer to family members, she said.

"It has been my distinct privilege and honor to lead KYC through great organizational change and growth," Cowen wrote in a letter. "Working with an incredible team and all of you has been a highlight of my career."

Her last day will be May 4. If a new CEO has not been selected by then, a board member will be appointed as the interim CEO.

Kenneth Young's services include mental health screening and treatment, counseling, and Meals on Wheels for seniors, primarily in Elk Grove and Schaumburg townships.
