Snow making for a rough morning commute

Light snow continues to fall in the suburbs, and weather officials say additional snowfall is expected to last throughout the day.

The snow is causing slick conditions, causing minor traffic crashes in Hawthorn Woods, Lakemoor, Vernon Hills and Bartlett, Sigalert is reporting.

People are urged to use caution when traveling Monday.

Snow showers are expected to continue before 10 a.m., with a daytime snow accumulation of up to an inch possible is some locations, meteorologists forecast.

The high today be near 35 degrees, before turning breezy, with a sustained northwest wind around to 20 mph. Wind gusts of 30 mph are expected.

There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers Monday night, mainly before 8 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low of about 25 degrees overnight.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 41 degrees.

A chance of freezing rain and snow moves into the area overnight Wednesday and lingers through Thursday, officials say. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

The break in the weather finally comes Friday, when forecasters expect 50 degree temperatures to move in Friday afternoon.
