Forecasters: More snow, sleet expected Monday

Forecasters say more wintry weather is ahead after unseasonably cold temperatures and a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain hit the suburbs this weekend.

The National Weather Service warned of slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions Sunday throughout northern Illinois. A winter weather advisory was issued for Northern Illinois counties, including Lake and McHenry, where up to an inch of snow and ice could accumulate.

Snow and sleet could continue on and off through Monday in counties north of Interstate 88, including parts of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 30s and likely won't crack 50 degrees until later in the week.
