Garage fire spreads to Lake Barrington townhouse

The Wauconda Fire District is investigating the cause of a residential fire Wednesday morning in Lake Barrington.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10 a.m. to a townhouse building on the 500 block of Woodview Road. Crews reported heavy fire coming from a garage with an extension into one of the building's units.

 

An occupant of the unit escaped via a construction crew's ladder before firefighters arrived. The occupant was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. No one else was inside the building, and there were no other injuries.

Nine fire departments responded to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire started in the garage and spread into the residential unit.
