Victim identified in fatal Round Lake Park crash

Lake County coroner officials have identified the man who died Sunday in a violent crash in Round Lake Park.

Preliminary reports show Walter Bajorek, 65, of Round Lake Beach, died from multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the crash on Hainesville Road at 9:10 p.m., Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said Tuesday.

The case remains under investigation and coroner officials are still awaiting toxicology results, Cooper said.

Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said he could not release any additional information about the crash. Filenko said he is awaiting investigation results from the Major Crash Assistance Team.

Two vehicles were traveling south on Hainesville Road when the crash took place, Filenko said. The impact of the crash caused the vehicles to leave the road, while a third vehicle had minor damage.

Three people were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Bajorek died at the hospital, Filenko said.

Filenko said a driver of one of the vehicles ran from the scene after the crash. He was tracked for about one mile by a Lake County sheriff's police dog.

No charges have been filed at this time, Filenko said.

The crash remains under investigation.
