Police: Wheaton bank robber escapes on foot

Wheaton police are searching for a bank robber who last was seen Thursday afternoon fleeing from a Chase branch at 1800 S. Naperville Road.

The robber apparently ran west from the bank and may have entered the Northwestern Medicine Convenient Care, but police couldn't locate him and cleared the building, Deputy Chief Bill Murphy said.

The search drew a large police presence to the medical office complex at Naperville and Blanchard roads in one of the city's busiest shopping districts.

The man, wearing sunglasses and a partial face mask, robbed the bank about 3:30 p.m. There were no reports of injuries.

FBI investigators have been notified of the robbery, Murphy said.
