Allan wins Kane County District 17 Democratic primary

Incumbent Deborah Allan won Tuesday's Democratic primary for Kane County Board District 17.

Allan had 457 votes, or 49.6 percent of the total, while challenger Janice Bennett had 369 votes, or 40 percent, with all 13 precincts reporting, according to unofficial results. Both are Elgin residents.

Allan said the county has been "very judicious" with spending and could look into a Consumer Price Index-related increase to property taxes to keep up with rising costs and salary increases for employees.

She said she supports a sunset clause to any toll on the Longmeadow Parkway. She also said she will work to establish personal relationships and build trust between those who work in county government and the county judiciary, because there is a "bad high school" climate between the two.
