Woman killed in Waukegan crash

A 62-year-old woman from Waukegan was killed in a two-vehicle crash, authorities said Wednesday.

A 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling west on Pulaski Drive when it collided with a 2008 Ford Econoline Van that was northbound on Waukegan Road at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

The driver of the Grand Am, who has been identified as Cynthia Mallett, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she later died.

The driver of the van, a 27-year-old man from Gurnee, was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, authorities said. He was treated and released.

Authorities said the van driver was wearing a seat belt, but Mallett was not.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said preliminary autopsy results showed the victim died of multiple traumatic injuries suffered during the crash.

Toxicology tests are pending, he said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department Traffic Division. No citations have been issued.

Witnesses are asked to call the Waukegan Police Department at (847) 599-2630.
