Metra: 'Extensive train delays' on BNSF line after pedestrian struck

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train near the Riverside station Wednesday afternoon.

According to Metra spokesman Tom Miller, the crash occurred about 3 p.m. and involved a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, which was scheduled to operate express to Downers Grove.

BNSF trains were stopped for more than two hours, Miller said. Two of the three rail lines were opened around 5 p.m. with trains operating at restricted speed.

Current delay times are around 30 minutes for the BNSF line, according to Metra's website.

The Riverside Police Department was not immediately reachable for comment regarding details of the crash.
