Montgomery teen faces weapon charges from Aurora

A 17-year-old Montgomery boy faces two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after Aurora police said they found a loaded handgun in a vehicle in which he was riding.

Police said the charges stem from a traffic stop around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday near Sherman Avenue and Fourth Street after the driver failed to yield while turning left.

When officers approached the car, they found that it was occupied by the boy; the driver, an 18-year-old woman; and two 17-year-old girls. Police said they also smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and that they recovered the loaded pistol, which they were able to tie to the boy after searching the car.

The other teenagers were all released without being charged.

The driver was cited for the traffic violations.
