Hoffman Estates investigating separate house, garage fires

Hoffman Estates firefighters continue to investigate the causes of a pair of unrelated fires at a house and a garage in recent days.

No injuries were reported in either fire.

The house fire was reported at 3:40 a.m. Friday, on the 200 block of Flagstaff Drive. It resulted in an estimated $5,000 worth of damage, fire officials said in a news release.

The one-story single-family home had working smoking detectors which activated while a resident was investigating the smell of smoke. Firefighters determined the fire involved the living room couch and the wall behind it.

The fire in the detached garage of a single-family home on the 500 block of Glendale Lane was reported at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Though flames were contained to the garage, some of the vinyl siding on the nearby house melted and the residents were evacuated until the fire was extinguished. The estimated damage to the garage and its contents was $110,000.

Hoffman Estates firefighters received assistance on the scene from Palatine and Schaumburg firefighters, while firefighters from Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Barrington Countryside and Elgin provided station coverage while the fire was fought.
