Grayslake library hosts indoor golf to raise money

It was a "no shush!" weekend at Grayslake Area Public Library as patrons laughed and cheered while playing mini-golf on a course that snaked through the entire library.

Library officials transformed the space to raise money for the ongoing project to build a MakerSpace at the library. The MakerSpace will have a 3-D printer, a laser cutter, sewing machines and more.

"We solicit local businesses or individuals to sponsor a hole and they can either build it themselves or the foundation members will design and build the hole for them," said Philip Howe, president of the Grayslake Area Library Foundation, which expected more than 600 to attend. "All the kids have fun. And the adults like seeing the kids have fun."

Children and their parents raced from hole to hole, avoiding space aliens and other characters while trying to shoot into a Stanley Cup replica and hit around characters in Dr. Seuss land.
