Small fire extinguished at Schaumburg manufacturing facility

Schaumburg firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze Wednesday morning at a manufacturing facility on the southwest side of the village. No one was injured.

Firefighters responded to reports of the fire at Mercury Products Corp., 1201 Mercury Drive, about 10:15 a.m., Deputy Chief Dan Johnson said. The fire appeared to have began in a ventilating fan for one of the welding machines at the manufacturing facility, Johnson said.

Within about 15 minutes of arriving, firefighters had extinguished the fire, which caused minor damage to the roof, he added.

Mercury Drive between Wise and Irving Park roads was shut down as firefighters responded to the scene. It has since reopened.
