Lake County deputies de-escalate an armed situation

Lake County sheriff's deputies used crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate an armed situation Wednesday morning.

At 10:20 a.m., the sheriff's deputies received a call from the 23100 block of West Lake Shore Drive in Antioch Township. A 19-year-old man who had placed the call threatened to exit his room with his handgun to force the deputies to shoot him.

After an hour of using crisis intervention techniques, Deputy Eric Campbell, Deputy John Willer and Sergeant George Love were able to get the man to surrender peacefully.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for a mental health evaluation.
