Hoffman Estates babysitter accused of shaking, hurting baby

A Hoffman Estates baby sitter is accused of hurting a 5-month-old girl by shaking it.

Delfina Bautista, 30, of the 500 block of Heritage Drive in Hoffman Estates, was charged with this week with aggravated battery of a child with great bodily harm after the girl was brought to the hospital Sunday afternoon "because she was lethargic after being in the care of a baby sitter," Hoffman Estates police said. They said the child was hurt on the 500 block of Heritage Lane but did not specify whether that was Bautista's home.

Doctors noted injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome and reported them to the Department of Children and Family Services and police, police said. The child is still in the hospital and in critical condition, they said.

Police interviews and a Cook County state's attorney review of medical records and interviews led to the felony charge against Bautista.

Bautista is due in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Rolling Meadows.
