Wheaton vigil honors Florida shooting victims

The 17 people killed in the Valentine's Day school shooting in Parkland, Florida, were remembered in a candlelight vigil Sunday in Wheaton.

Mourners gathered outside Wheaton Warrenville South High School to hear speakers including Lauren Carr of Carol Stream, a survivor of the 2008 NIU mass shooting in which her friend Gayle Dubowski was killed, and Joe Dubowski of Carol Stream, Gayle's father and now a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in grief counseling.

News of the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, arrived just as a memorial service was about to begin Wednesday in DeKalb for the NIU shooting, which also was on Valentine's Day.
