Mount Prospect police: Man found dead in burning Jeep

Police are investigating the death of a man found inside a burning Jeep overnight in Mount Prospect.

Firefighters and police officers responded to 911 reports of a vehicle fire on the 1700 block of West Algonquin Road shortly after midnight Friday. Flames engulfed the car, and firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Mount Prospect police officer Greg Sill said the 911 callers reported hearing popping sounds similar to breaking glass.

When the fire was out, first responders found a man's body inside the Jeep, police said. Investigators consider the death to be suspicious.

Detectives from Mount Prospect and members of the Major Case Assistance Team, an organization of 22 police agencies, are investigating the death.

"Detectives are working diligently to identify the deceased male and gather further forensic evidence," police said in a news release.

Police said there does not appear to be a connection between the burning vehicle and the where it was found.
