'Mardi Gras Hangover' is Six Flags new roller coaster
Six Flags Great America hopes people will line up to get a "Hangover" this summer.
Gurnee theme park officials announced Tuesday they will name their new loop coaster the "Mardi Gras Hangover" when it opens 2018.
The coaster, the park's 16th, will be in the Mardi Gras area, officials said. It's billed by park officials as the largest roller coaster of its kind in the world.
The "King Chaos" was closed to make room for the new coaster.
The 100-foot tall coaster will take riders forward and backward on a gigantic loop before suspending them upside down, officials said.
The 32 seats on the new coaster will be back-to-back and face-to-face, officials said. This will allow half the riders to experience a backward loop before a forwards loop and vice versa.
I> addition to the Mardi Gras Hangover, the theme park will introduce a new Mardi Gras festival debuting in late summer. The planned event will include nightly shows, floats, beads, stilt walkers, unique food offerings, and fireworks, officials said.
"Naming such a unique and record-breaking coaster required out-of-the-box thinking," Park President Hank Salemi said in a news release. "Riders will experience multiple moments of hang-time on Mardi Gras Hangover, with the addition of our Mardi Gras Festival debuting this summer, it was the perfect fit."
