Buffalo Grove man charged with sexually abusing teen

A Buffalo Grove man, charged with sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl who was staying with him after a fight with her parents, was ordered held on $50,000 bail Wednesday.

Joseph Taglianetti, 53, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Prosecutors say Taglianetti, a family friend, invited the girl to stay at his house the night of Jan. 18 after she and her parents argued. The girl's mother asked her if it was OK and the teen agreed, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Katherine Bird said.

After talking with Taglianetti at his home, the teen fell asleep in a spare bedroom, Bird said. She awoke to him lying beside her with his arms around her then feigned sleep when he began to sexually abuse her, Bird said. Pretending she was startled awake, she got up from the bed and spent the rest of the night in another room, Bird said.

She subsequently told her mother she was uncomfortable around Taglianetti, Bird said. On Jan. 25, the girl told a school psychologist and her mother she had been abused and reported the abuse to the Buffalo Grove police, Bird said.

Taglianetti next appears in court on March 1.
